About This Tool

The image to SVG tool turns your photos and graphics into vector files. An SVG is vector-based, so it opens perfectly smooth at any size, from a small icon to a several-metre banner, with no pixelation. Conversion is online and free, with no installation and no signup.

It usually comes up when all you have is a PNG of a logo and the other side wants vector: a print shop making a sign or banner, a designer building stationery and business cards, a site builder needing a header logo or icon, or a cutting plotter making stickers. Instead of redrawing the logo by hand, you vectorize the image here.

Drag the file in and the result appears instantly next to the original, along with the size of the SVG. If the output is not quite what you wanted, the advanced settings let you switch between colour and monochrome, change the number of colours, and adjust detail. Files never leave your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert an image to SVG?
Click the box and pick a file, or drag the image into it. Conversion runs automatically and the result appears next to the original; then press the download SVG button.
The output looks busy and blotchy, what can I do?
Open advanced settings and lower the number of colours. Fewer colours means cleaner edges, more colours means a closer match to the original; for a logo, a low number usually looks better.
My logo is one colour, which setting should I use?
Choose monochrome mode in advanced settings. Then use the black and white threshold to decide how much of the image stays black: a lower value keeps more detail black, a higher value keeps only the darkest parts.
The SVG file came out very large, how do I shrink it?
Lower the detail setting. Less detail means smoother lines and a lighter file, more detail means higher accuracy but a heavier one. Reducing the number of colours also brings the size down.
Which formats and sizes are accepted?
PNG, JPG, WebP and GIF images up to 30 MB. The output is always a downloadable SVG file.
I got an "image dimensions too large" message, what now?
The image is bigger than the allowed size. Scale the picture down first and upload it again; the image compression tool on this site can do that.
Why did a portrait or landscape photo give a poor result?
Vectorizing works well on images with clear edges and flat areas, such as logos, icons and flat artwork. Natural photos have shadows and continuous colour shifts, so vectorizing them gives a painting-like result.
Is text inside the image editable after conversion?
No. Letters become graphic shapes rather than typed text. To change the wording you have to retype it in a design program.
What opens an SVG file?
Any browser opens it. Vector design programs open it for editing, and print shops usually ask for exactly this file for banners and signs.
What is the difference between an SVG and a PNG?
A PNG is made of pixels and loses quality when enlarged, with edges turning jagged. An SVG is vector-based and stays smooth at any size, which makes it the better choice for large print and high-resolution displays.
Is my image sent to a server?
No. Files never leave your device and nothing is stored on a server.
Do you have a tool for converting image formats?
Yes, the image format converter on this site converts between the common formats and suits cases where you do not need vector output.
