About This Tool

Convert images to WebP online and for free: drop in a JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, SVG or an iPhone HEIC photo and get a WebP file back. No installation and no sign-up.

The usual reason to reach for this is a website or online store: the same picture is several times lighter as WebP, pages open faster and speed scores go up. It is also the quickest way to prepare a batch of blog or product images when hosting space is tight, without changing how the pictures look.

You can drop in several images at once and download them one by one or as a single ZIP. If you need it, the output can also be set to PNG or JPG. Your files never leave your device and nothing is kept on a server.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert an image to WebP?
Drag the image onto the page, or click the box and pick a file. The output is already set to WebP, so the conversion runs automatically and the download button under the image becomes active.
How do I convert several images at once?
Drop all the files together; each one is converted separately and its size before and after is shown next to it. Use "Download All (ZIP)" to get them in one file, and "Clear" to empty the list for the next batch.
How much smaller will the image get?
It depends on the original. Screenshots and PNG graphics shrink the most, sometimes by around 80 percent. JPG photos that were already compressed shrink less. The exact number for each file is shown next to it after conversion.
Can I set the output quality myself?
The WebP quality here is fixed at a level where the result is indistinguishable from the original. If you want to control quality and dimensions yourself to hit a specific file size, use the Image Compressor tool instead.
Is transparency preserved in WebP?
Yes. WebP supports transparency, so PNG logos and icons convert to WebP without a white background.
Does it convert iPhone HEIC photos to WebP?
Yes. Drop in a HEIC or HEIF file to get WebP. If you also need the photo to open on Windows and in older programs, set the output to JPG.
Does it accept SVG files?
Yes. When you add an SVG, an "SVG width (px)" box appears. Because SVG is vector, any width you enter comes out at full quality; 1024 pixels is plenty for the web. The original aspect ratio is kept.
Does it convert animated GIFs?
The first frame is converted and the animation is not kept in the output.
Does WebP work in WordPress and all browsers?
Yes. Every current browser including Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge displays WebP, and WordPress accepts WebP uploads.
I need the opposite: turning WebP back into JPG or PNG.
Add the WebP file here and set "Convert to:" to JPG or PNG. For other conversions between formats, see the Image Format Converter tool.
What are the size and file-count limits?
Up to 30 MB per file, with no limit on how many files. Anything larger than that or in an unsupported format is set aside right away with a clear message.
Are my images sent to a server?
No. Your files never leave your device and are not stored anywhere, so you can convert ID photos and personal files without concern.
